Learning with us

Earn an internationally recognised qualification

All our degrees are internationally accredited. You can see the different subjects and levels of degree offered on our degree listing pages.

Meeting the entry requirements

You’ll see specific requirements for your degree under the “What do I need to apply?” section on its degree pages. You can study from any country, but you’ll need to meet the minimum academic and language requirements outlined on the degree page.

Studying at your own pace

You can see the time required for each degree on its degree programme page. Within each programme there will be weeks of assessment which will require more time, and we’ll tell you this clearly in advance.

Costs, payment, and financial support

Degrees vary in price depending on the subject. For most degrees you’ll be able to pay either upfront or in instalments, allowing you to space out your purchase. We currently only take payment through partner university sites, so how you pay is decided by the university who have created the degree.

Make the most of online learning

While online learning comes with a whole host of benefits, it’s also a relatively new way of learning for many people. You get the flexibility and freedom to join the classrooms of some of the world’s best universities, from anywhere in the world but it’s also possible to feel nervous or anxious about starting a degree completely online.

While we’re always on hand to help with whatever you need, keep reading to get prepared for your online degree journey in just a few steps.

Read around your subject

Familiarise yourself with the programme’s modules, curriculum, and any prerequisites. Stay up-to-date with the latest research, industry trends, and relevant literature related to your field, or even consider taking a short online course related to your subject. Reading around your subject throughout your studies will also provide valuable insights as you move through your online degree journey.

Explore your resources

Universities with online degree programmes usually offer a number of resources and support services, including virtual libraries, online tutoring, career services, and academic support. Take the time to explore these resources and understand how they can assist you in your studies. This is likely to vary depending on the university—so, do your research before you enrol on your degree.

Create the perfect study space

Whether you choose your own office, a cosy corner of your living room, or even a peaceful spot in your public library, it’s essential that you have somewhere that allows you to focus on your studies in a distraction-free environment. And of course, you’ll need study materials and a reliable internet connection.

Make a study schedule

Designing a study schedule is an essential part of every student’s university experience, but it’s even more important for online students. To help stay on track with your learning, identify the times of day when you’re most alert and productive, and allocate those hours for focused study.

Stay connected with a network

Online learning doesn’t mean you have to study alone. Engage with your lecturers, programme leaders and fellow students through discussion boards, comment sections, online study groups or even WhatsApp groups.

Prioritise your wellbeing

It’s important that you remember to take care of yourself, both physically and mentally. The best way to do this is by incorporating regular exercise, breaks, nutritious food, and relaxation techniques into your online study routine. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance will contribute to your overall success and wellbeing as an online student.

FAQs

A common misconception about online learning is going it alone. In reality, many universities and organisations prioritise support to ensure your success. You’ll often have access to academic advisors, career services, interactive student forums, and one-on-one guidance from tutors. With these resources at your fingertips, you’ll never feel like you’re navigating your education alone.

FutureLearn’s community team is on hand to answer any questions you have. For questions related to the degree programme, you'll be able to contact a course advisor before submitting your application, and while on the degree programme, you'll be able to get in touch with your programme leader, lecturer, or course tutor.

As an online learner, you’ll have access to a treasure trove of digital resources, from extensive libraries to in-depth research materials. And if you hit a roadblock, don’t worry—your tutors and support teams are always on hand to provide guidance, so you're never on your own. It’s all about giving you the tools and support you need to succeed, no matter where you are.

Once you've enrolled, you can still move to a different degree within the same discipline (e.g. from a master’s degree to a graduate certificate within the same subject if one is available). To do this, contact your tutor at the university. Once you complete the modules required for your degree of choice, you'll be awarded the qualification.

Most online degrees don’t require in-person attendance. Some may include virtual exams or assessments, but everything is designed to work around your schedule. No need to travel—you can learn from pretty much anywhere as an online graduate.

As degrees are made up of modules (each earning you a credit), you can pause at the end of a programme, returning when you want to do another. You'll need to discuss with your tutor at the university offering the degree if you want to arrange a pause in your studies. The amount of time you can pause for will vary between universities, but the credit you’ve earned will remain valid.

Graduation rates depend on the programme, the level of support provided, and your commitment. If you’re looking for more guidance to stay on track and graduate on time, it’s a good idea to explore universities that offer strong support systems, like academic mentoring, career services, and dedicated resources to help you succeed. These factors can significantly boost your chances of completing your degree successfully.

Many online degree programmes offer dedicated career services to help you transition from student to professional. From refining your CV and preparing for interviews to job search strategies, you'll have access to expert advice tailored to your career goals. Plus, some even provide exclusive connections with employers and industry networks, opening doors to exciting opportunities as you finish your learning.
