If you’ve ever dreamed of penning novels, writing for games, or scripting award-winning screenplays, Falmouth University’s BA (Hons) Creative Writing programme is for you.
In just two years full-time or three years part-time, you’ll transform your creative aspirations into a viable career by experimenting with various writing practices and producing high-quality content across multiple formats and platforms.
On this flexible, online undergraduate degree, supported by Falmouth’s expansive creative community and a range of collaborative real-world projects, you’ll cultivate your creative and critical thinking skills, navigate conventions, and discover your place in the world as a writer.
Bring ideas to life with world-building and character development
This online degree is broken up into three stages. The first, focuses on the cornerstones of good storytelling, further honing your reflective and analytical skills.
You’ll learn the art of crafting immersive worlds and shaping dynamic character arcs, empowering you to connect with diverse audiences and learn to ‘read as a writer’ by developing effective research strategies for impactful creative non-fiction and life-writing.
Express your personal voice across creative platforms
Next, you’ll shape your writing practice within contemporary culture. You’ll explore diverse creative forms and experiment with new ways to express your unique voice across digital and traditional media.
You’ll examine the social and cultural forces that shape your role as a writer, helping you craft a writing style that is both informed and adaptable to shifting audiences and contexts.
Hone your writing skills across genres and mediums
By stage two, you’ll apply storytelling insights and creative expression as you collaboratively explore different writing genres and forms. You’ll do so by navigating writing for games, film, and TV, adapting your voice to the fast-paced, digital world.
You’ll then shift your writing practice to travel, place, and nature, developing vivid storytelling techniques to capture themes of exploration and the environment.
As you wrap up this stage, you’ll also gain writing techniques for poetry, theatre, and comedy, challenging you to disrupt traditional formats and resonate with a variety of audiences.
Develop a creative writing portfolio
Approaching the final stage of this course, you’ll hone your creative voice by diving into a genre of your choice and producing an innovative, multiform piece.
You’ll work on this final project with the support of a dedicated supervisor, who’ll help you gain market-savvy skills and frameworks for your future publishing ventures.
By the end of this programme, you’ll have a polished body of work you can showcase to prospective employers, a strong public presence as a 21st-century writer, and the entrepreneurial skills to navigate and adapt to the evolving creative industries.
