Additional information

An honours degree or Level 6 equivalent qualification. Those without formal qualifications may also be able to apply. The course encourages applicants without formal qualifications to discuss their entry prospects with an advisor.

A piece of sample writing in the form of a screenplay, formatted to an industry standard. The screenplay can be as long as you wish but should be at least 5 pages. It can be an excerpt of a larger piece of writing. You can also submit other pieces of sample writing such as short stories, plays or radio dramas along with your screenplay, to support your application.

If English is not your first language you will need to meet the same standard, which is equivalent to the IELTS Academic 6.5 overall score, with at least 5.5 in Reading, Writing, and Listening, and a minimum of 6.0 in speaking. We also accept a range of other recognised English language qualifications.

This degree is offered as a part-time course. Students are recommended to commit 25-27 hours per week over 120 weeks to complete the programme in two years. This flexible approach allows you to balance your studies with personal and professional commitments.

Your progress will be assessed through a combination of coursework, practical projects, and reflective essays. These materials will evaluate your ability to apply creative techniques, demonstrate professional skills, and critically analyse your work and that of others in the context of industry practices.

  • Screenwriter: As a screenwriter, you can craft scripts for film, television, and digital media. Your skills in storytelling and script development will enable you to create compelling narratives that captivate audiences worldwide.
  • Script Editor: A script editor works closely with writers, directors, and producers to enhance the quality and coherence of scripts. You’ll apply your critical thinking and editorial skills to improve dialogue, structure, and pacing.
  • Television Producer: Utilise your understanding of screen industries to oversee the development and production of television programmes. You’ll be responsible for managing teams, and budgets, and ensuring the creative vision is fulfilled.
  • Story Development Executive: As a story development executive, you’ll scout for new content opportunities, evaluate scripts, and guide projects through development. Your role involves identifying market trends and working with talent to bring fresh stories to screens.
  • Content Manager for Streaming Platforms: Leverage your industry knowledge to curate, manage, and develop content for streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon Studios. You’ll ensure a diverse and engaging range of shows and films are available to audiences.
