Gain formal teacher training whilst in employment in a school

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) provides the opportunity to develop your craft in the classroom. On this school-based teacher training course, you can enjoy the flexibility of online learning alongside practical in-school experience, as you study and train while working in a school.

You’ll be encouraged to apply a variety of teaching theories and methods to help develop your own teaching approach. You’ll also have the opportunity to build confidence and harness your ability to transfer knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to your pupils.

Additional information

Prior experience in teaching in schools is not a pre-requisite of acceptance for this course. Trainees may include recent graduates who have secured a teaching or teaching assistant job in a school, career changers, and teachers or assistants who have worked in a school but have no formal teaching qualification. Additionally, to gain entry to the course, you must:
  • Hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent as assessed by NARIC
  • Be employed in a school for the duration of study

Applicants whose first language is not English should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall.

This course can be studied 100% online with both full-time and part-time options. The full-time route takes one year to complete, or part-time two years.
